If you’re looking for anything ranging from Concealed Carry to Concealed Online you are at the right site! Felton Academy is well recognized providers of conceal firearm certification courses for Virginia but also several other states like Oregon, Wyoming, and Iowa. Many who visit out website have questions about – What does it mean to have a concealed carry permit? Having a concealed carry permit suggests that you are allowed to bring a handgun in your possession or anywhere near you in public areas. State jurisdictions vary greatly on this issue so it is essential that you know what laws are being enforced in your state.

In some counties, the concealed carry permit is not only applicable to lethal weapons but also to other self-defense products like pepper sprays. However, in all 50 states, carrying guns is generally allowed though doing so is still under certain regulations.

There are 4 licensing policies enforced in each state and an individual’s ability to carry a concealed weapon is subject to these policies. These are:

  1. Unrestricted

Only a few states allow unrestricted concealed weapon licenses, which means no permission is needed to carry a handgun. A person may do so at his own discretion.

  1. Shall-issue

Under this restriction, a permit is necessary to carry a concealed gun but there are no discretion in awarding of these permits. Anybody may request for it and be granted.

  1. May-issue

Here, the license to bring a concealed handgun is approved by the local authorities.

  1. No issue

In no-issue states, nobody is allowed to carry a gun in public places.

Why You Should Get A Conceal Weapons Certification?

Technically speaking, bringing a concealed weapon in public areas is allowed across 50 states. But then again, some of them require a permit to do so. Although you do have the freedom to skip applying for a permit and just carry a firearm as you wish, there are a lot of benefits to doing the paperwork.

Bringing guns is a huge responsibility. It’s only right for its use to be bound by laws. If you have a handgun for the purpose of self-defense, then you have to be responsible enough to know when to bring it or when to keep it. Securing yourself or your loved ones must be everyone’s priority.

But because the laws surrounding concealed carry can change from one locality to another, carrying a license assures you peace of mind all the time. This is specially true if you always go from one county to the next and the guidelines about bringing weapons may change drastically.

A license is the proof that you’re a responsible person and you don’t carry a handgun for no reason at all. Holding the required permits indicates that you have nothing to be afraid of and you are using the gun exactly as how you intended it. The background check that’s usually required when requesting for a permit shows your true intentions. If you would like more details, please take a look at out blog.

Would Stricter Gun Laws Actually Curb Gun Violence in America?

There has been much debate recently with the upcoming election about gun laws in America. Some politicians and their supporters believe tightening gun laws would make a big difference in reducing gun violence in our country. On the other hand, some believe adding and tightening gun laws would infringe on our rights without making a significant difference on gun violence. Many of this school of thought believe focusing the attention instead on mental health would make more of a difference. Recently the New York Times published a study examining America’s worst shootings in 2015. They examined all 130 shootings in 2015 in which, “four or more people were shot, at least one fatally, and investigators identified at least one attacker”.

The findings of the study were as follows:

  • “In more than half the 130 cases, at least one assailant was already barred by federal law from having a weapon, usually because of a felony conviction”
  • “64 percent of the shootings involved at least one attacker who violated an existing gun law”.
  • “Of the remaining assailants, 40 percent had never had a serious run-in with the law and probably could have bought a gun even in states with the strictest firearm controls”.
  • “Only 14 shootings involved assault rifles, illustrating their outsize role in the gun debate. Nearly every other assailant used a handgun. That is in line with a federal study that concluded that reviving a 1994 ban on assault weapons and ammunition feeding devices that hold more than 10 rounds would have a minimal impact, at best, on gun violence”.

From this study along with many others, it is easy to conclude that criminals typically do not follow the law. As you can see, in the majority of these shootings the attacker violated an existing gun law. It’s true, criminals do violate laws, so enforcing our current gun laws may do far more than adding new ones ever could! Not to mention, we can do this without infringing on our second amendment rights! To me the answer is simple, focusing on mental health and enforcing our existing laws will help make this country a much safer place than adding new gun laws could.
