Felton Academy is well recognized providers of conceal weapons permit classes for Virginia but also many other states like Oregon, Wyoming, and Iowa. A great number of individuals who visit out website have concerns about – What does it mean to have a concealed carry permit? Being granted a concealed carry permit suggests that you’re allowed to carry a weapon in your person or anywhere near you in public places. State jurisdictions vary significantly about this matter so it is important that you understand what laws are being enforced in your area.

In certain localities, the concealed carry permit is not only applicable to handguns but also to other self-defense devices like chemical sprays. But in all fifty states, bringing weapons is generally permissible but doing so is subject to a handful of regulations.

There are 4 licensing policies imposed in each state and a person’s ability to bring a concealed weapon is subject to these laws. These are:

  1. Unrestricted

Only a handful states allow unrestricted concealed weapon licenses, which indicates no permission has to be sought to carry a handgun. An individual can do so at his sole discretion.

  1. Shall-issue

Under this guideline, a license is required to bring a concealed gun but there will be no restriction in awarding of these licenses. Anyone may apply for one and be granted.

  1. May-issue

Here, the license to bring a concealed gun is granted by the local authorities.

  1. No issue

In no-issue states, no one is permitted to carry a concealed weapon in public areas.

Why You Should Get A Conceal Weapons Certification?

Generally speaking, bringing a concealed firearm in public areas is allowed in all 50 states. But then again, some states require a license to do so. Even if you do have the freedom to skip applying for a permit and just bring a weapon as you wish, there are a lot of advantages to doing the paperwork.

Carrying weapons is a big responsibility. It is only right that using it is bound by the law. If you have a gun for the purpose of self-defense, then you have to be responsible enough to know when to bring it and when to keep it. Securing yourself or your loved ones must be everybody’s priority.

But since the laws surrounding concealed carry can change from one locality to another, carrying a license assures you peace of mind at all times. This is specially true if you always go from one county to another and the rules about bringing weapons may change drastically.

A permit is the proof that you’re a responsible person and you don’t carry a handgun for no reason at all. Owning the required licenses shows that you have nothing to hide and you are using the firearm in the way you intended it. The background check that’s normally needed when requesting for a permit speaks highly of your true intentions. If you would like more details, please visit at out blog.

Would Stricter Gun Laws Actually Curb Gun Violence in America?

There has been much debate recently with the upcoming election about gun laws in America. Some politicians and their supporters believe tightening gun laws would make a big difference in reducing gun violence in our country. On the other hand, some believe adding and tightening gun laws would infringe on our rights without making a significant difference on gun violence. Many of this school of thought believe focusing the attention instead on mental health would make more of a difference. Recently the New York Times published a study examining America’s worst shootings in 2015. They examined all 130 shootings in 2015 in which, “four or more people were shot, at least one fatally, and investigators identified at least one attacker”.

The findings of the study were as follows:

  • “In more than half the 130 cases, at least one assailant was already barred by federal law from having a weapon, usually because of a felony conviction”
  • “64 percent of the shootings involved at least one attacker who violated an existing gun law”.
  • “Of the remaining assailants, 40 percent had never had a serious run-in with the law and probably could have bought a gun even in states with the strictest firearm controls”.
  • “Only 14 shootings involved assault rifles, illustrating their outsize role in the gun debate. Nearly every other assailant used a handgun. That is in line with a federal study that concluded that reviving a 1994 ban on assault weapons and ammunition feeding devices that hold more than 10 rounds would have a minimal impact, at best, on gun violence”.

From this study along with many others, it is easy to conclude that criminals typically do not follow the law. As you can see, in the majority of these shootings the attacker violated an existing gun law. It’s true, criminals do violate laws, so enforcing our current gun laws may do far more than adding new ones ever could! Not to mention, we can do this without infringing on our second amendment rights! To me the answer is simple, focusing on mental health and enforcing our existing laws will help make this country a much safer place than adding new gun laws could.
