Many who visit out site have questions about – What does it mean to have a concealed carry permit? Being granted a concealed carry permit suggests that you are allowed to carry a gun in your possession or anywhere near you in public areas. State jurisdictions vary greatly on this matter so it’s important that you learn what rules are being practiced in your locality.

In certain areas, the concealed carry permit is not only applied to guns but also to other self-defense products such as chemical sprays. But in all 50 states, bringing guns is normally allowed although doing so is still under certain regulations.

There are four licensing policies imposed in each state and a person’s ability to bring a concealed weapon is subject to these laws. These are:

  1. Unrestricted

Only a handful states allow unrestricted concealed weapon licenses, which means no permission has to be sought to carry a handgun. One can do so at his own discretion.

  1. Shall-issue

Under this restriction, a license is necessary to bring a concealed gun but there will be no restriction in awarding of these permits. Any individual may apply for it and be granted.

  1. May-issue

Here, the license to bring a concealed weapon is issued by the local authorities.

  1. No issue

In no-issue states, no one is permitted to bring a handgun in public areas.

Why You Should Get A Conceal Firearm Certification?

Technically speaking, carrying a concealed weapon in public areas is allowed in all 50 states. However, a majority states require a permit to do so. Even if you do have the freedom to avoid applying for a permit and just carry a handgun as you wish, there are many benefits to doing the paperwork.

Bringing firearms is a big responsibility. It is only proper for its use to be bound by the law. If you own a firearm for issues protection, then you have to be responsible enough to understand when to use it and when to hide it. Protecting yourself or your loved ones should be everyone’s priority.

But since the laws surrounding concealed carry can be different from one locality to another, carrying a license assures you peace of mind at all times. This is especially true if you tend to drive from one state to another and the laws about bringing weapons may differ.

A permit is the proof that you are a responsible person and you don’t carry a gun for no reason at all. Holding the required permits shows that you have nothing to hide and you are using the weapon exactly as how you intended it. Would Stricter Gun Laws Actually Curb Gun Violence in America?

There has been much debate recently with the upcoming election about gun laws in America. Some politicians and their supporters believe tightening gun laws would make a big difference in reducing gun violence in our country. On the other hand, some believe adding and tightening gun laws would infringe on our rights without making a significant difference on gun violence. Many of this school of thought believe focusing the attention instead on mental health would make more of a difference. Recently the New York Times published a study examining America’s worst shootings in 2015. They examined all 130 shootings in 2015 in which, “four or more people were shot, at least one fatally, and investigators identified at least one attacker”.

The findings of the study were as follows:

  • “In more than half the 130 cases, at least one assailant was already barred by federal law from having a weapon, usually because of a felony conviction”
  • “64 percent of the shootings involved at least one attacker who violated an existing gun law”.
  • “Of the remaining assailants, 40 percent had never had a serious run-in with the law and probably could have bought a gun even in states with the strictest firearm controls”.
  • “Only 14 shootings involved assault rifles, illustrating their outsize role in the gun debate. Nearly every other assailant used a handgun. That is in line with a federal study that concluded that reviving a 1994 ban on assault weapons and ammunition feeding devices that hold more than 10 rounds would have a minimal impact, at best, on gun violence”.

From this study along with many others, it is easy to conclude that criminals typically do not follow the law. As you can see, in the majority of these shootings the attacker violated an existing gun law. It’s true, criminals do violate laws, so enforcing our current gun laws may do far more than adding new ones ever could! Not to mention, we can do this without infringing on our second amendment rights! To me the answer is simple, focusing on mental health and enforcing our existing laws will help make this country a much safer place than adding new gun laws could.
