So as to be allowed to bring a weapon, an individual has to apply for a permit first. This is true in many states. And among their requirements for issuing a permit is finishing a CCW training course and passing the necessary test. However, the examination may be taken over the internet. That is the reason why there are online CCW classes offered nowadays.

But are such online CCW classes legal? In certain states, they are. In Virginia for example, it’s generally possible to take the classes and examinations online. The online training will teach students basic gun usage, how to clean the weapon, how to use it safely, and all the applicable laws related to its use. The online CCW classes offered in Virginia uses the internet so it’s easier for anybody to file for a license without attending long classroom sessions or even firing the gun.

But then, this may not be true in other counties. Some counties require a person to physically enter a firing range and learn firing a weapon. They should also learn how to clean it and use it safely. They must  follow all rules too. So prior to taking online CCW classes, make a research first. Are these classes accredited in your county? Would the online completion certificate be admissible to the local authorities?

Should You Get A Conceal Handgun Permit Online?

There are some places, asking for a concealed carry permit online is possible. But then again, it also means that you must ace the examination that the board mandates. If you are not an knowledgeable handgun owner, acing the examination may be difficult. Your choices are to take the test several times or actually experience how to fire a gun prior to applying for a permit.

Do note that not all states provide concealed carry licenses online. Know for sure if your locality is included in the list that allows online application. If it does, then validate the requirements that you have to submit in order to qualify for the permit.

In cities where online licenses are provided, the whole process is as straightforward as these 4 steps:

  1. Apply for the permit and pay the necessary fees.
  2. Take the online training provided.
  3. Pass the exam after completing the training.
  4. Get your license.

Although these procedures are fairly simple, you must first know if the license that you are applying for is truly accredited in your locality. There are dishonest companies operating these days that lead people into believing that they’ll be acquiring state licenses, only to receive a useless certification of completion at the end of the training. Would Stricter Gun Laws Actually Curb Gun Violence in America?

There has been much debate recently with the upcoming election about gun laws in America. Some politicians and their supporters believe tightening gun laws would make a big difference in reducing gun violence in our country. On the other hand, some believe adding and tightening gun laws would infringe on our rights without making a significant difference on gun violence. Many of this school of thought believe focusing the attention instead on mental health would make more of a difference. Recently the New York Times published a study examining America’s worst shootings in 2015. They examined all 130 shootings in 2015 in which, “four or more people were shot, at least one fatally, and investigators identified at least one attacker”.

The findings of the study were as follows:

  • “In more than half the 130 cases, at least one assailant was already barred by federal law from having a weapon, usually because of a felony conviction”
  • “64 percent of the shootings involved at least one attacker who violated an existing gun law”.
  • “Of the remaining assailants, 40 percent had never had a serious run-in with the law and probably could have bought a gun even in states with the strictest firearm controls”.
  • “Only 14 shootings involved assault rifles, illustrating their outsize role in the gun debate. Nearly every other assailant used a handgun. That is in line with a federal study that concluded that reviving a 1994 ban on assault weapons and ammunition feeding devices that hold more than 10 rounds would have a minimal impact, at best, on gun violence”.

From this study along with many others, it is easy to conclude that criminals typically do not follow the law. As you can see, in the majority of these shootings the attacker violated an existing gun law. It’s true, criminals do violate laws, so enforcing our current gun laws may do far more than adding new ones ever could! Not to mention, we can do this without infringing on our second amendment rights! To me the answer is simple, focusing on mental health and enforcing our existing laws will help make this country a much safer place than adding new gun laws could.
